Taking and annotating photos

Photos are often the most important part of a punch list item. A single clear photo can communicate an issue better than a paragraph of description. Punch List lets you attach up to two photos per item, annotate them with drawing tools, and include them automatically in your PDF reports.

Attaching a photo

From the item detail screen, tap either of the two photo slots:

  • Take Photo. Opens your camera to capture a new shot.
  • Choose from Library. Lets you pick an existing photo from your gallery.

Annotating a photo

Once a photo is attached, tap it to open the annotation editor. You can:

  • Draw. Use your finger (or a stylus) to circle, arrow, or highlight parts of the photo.
  • Choose colors. Pick from 13 colors to make annotations stand out against any photo background.
  • Undo. Remove the last stroke you made.
  • Crop. Trim the photo to focus on the relevant area.
  • Save. Lock in your edits.

Annotations are saved with the photo and will appear in PDF reports exactly as you drew them.

Photo timestamps

In the app's Settings screen, you can enable automatic timestamps. When on, each photo you take is stamped with the date and time in the corner. This is invaluable for disputes over when an issue was first identified or when a correction was made.

Saving to your device gallery

By default, photos you take in Punch List are stored only inside the app. If you want them to also save to your phone's main photo library, enable Save to Gallery in the app's Settings.

Privacy note

Photos attached to punch list items stay on your device. They're never uploaded to a cloud service unless you explicitly export or share a punch list.
